The evolution of technology is pushing the boundaries and changing the face of the logistics industry. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are already building efficiencies of various aspects of the logistics industry, with a granularity and a scale that human beings simply can’t mimic.
Technology adoption in the HR domain of the logistics industry is enhancing productivity, creativity, and improving the overall employee engagement. AI-enabled recruiting tools, blockchain technology for database and process management, and remote collaboration platforms are some integral and critical aspects of the HR management process that came to be adopted during the pandemic.
Technology use in HR process
Technology has changed the way HR departments contact employees, store files and analyse employee performance. Moreover, the adoption of remote and hybrid work models in the pandemic impact has made technology an integral and critical aspect of the HR management process.
According to Deven Pabaru, CEO, Stellar Value Chain Solutions, the emergence of the HR technology helps the company become resilient and nimble in dealing with uncertainties. HR technology has been facilitating effective communication with the employees, apart from ensuring efficiency in gathering and disseminating information.
Pabaru further said automating some HR processes becomes vital to ensure consistency, reduce errors and fast-track responses. Processes like employee onboarding, offboarding, payroll processing, performance tracking, etc can be automated to boost HR productivity. On the other hand, initiatives like assessing employee engagement, leadership development, performance reviews, etc cannot be automated as these processes require human interactions.
Ruchi Awasthi, Director – People Success, Shipsy, said, “AI-driven ATS and HR management tools are helping the company with advanced resume searching, enhanced multi-channel sourcing, automated parsing, screening, and so on. It saves significant time to hire, cost of hire and also improves the quality of hire.”
Technology is helping the company to address the challenges by integrating and strategically implementing digital learning platforms to encourage on-the-job learning and upskilling employees for better cohesive growth prospects.
Awasthi said, technology surely has become imperative but it cannot replace the intelligence and emotions that humans bring. Though, HR technology is exceptional at handling vast datasets, creating insightful reports, and scaling the digital performance of the employees at the workplace.
Digitalisation and leveraging artificial intelligence in the workplace
The HR leaders in the logistics sector are aggressively adopting digitalisation, and in some cases leveraging artificial intelligence to offer superior employee experience. Some organisations have effectively integrated AI in fundamental HR operations such as onboarding, performance evaluation, recruitment, training, etc.
Revealing the initiatives at the workplace, Pabaru said, at Stellar Value Chain Solutions, they have digitised the hiring process. The company also has integrated AI to screen resumes on parameters like knowledge, experience, competencies, etc. “The technology integration has streamlined our talent acquisition process to a great extent,” he said.
Awasthi concluded by saying that at Shipsy, HRM software helps to optimize internal processes, carry out functions related to compliance, performance review, and others. The company has also integrated a learning management system to support the learning and development of the workforce and nurture talent for leadership roles. It also leverages an intuitive business communication platform that is excellent in fostering employee engagement and improving teamwork.
